The Assassination of Caesar
|
Plebian-voted speaker, Publius Servilius Casca Longus, was part of the group of conspirators who took action to kill Caesar on the Ides of March. He and his brother, Gaius, were both present in Senate House while Titinius presented Caesar with a petition to recall his exiled brother. However, Caesar dismissed the petition, saying that he would not repeal the exile. That was when Titinius gave the signal and grabbed Caesar's toga. As soon as Titinius does this, Casca strikes from behind Caesar and plunges his dagger into Caesar's back. He and Gaius, along with eleven other men, stabbed Caesar to death that day. Thus, Publius Servilius Casca Longus' name has secured for itself a place in history, as one of the murderers of Julius Caesar.
